Hazardous waste

Waste is generally considered hazardous if it (or the material or substances it contains) is harmful to humans or the environment. Examples include asbestos, solvents, pesticides, inedible oils and chemicals such as brake fluid or print toner.

Please note: Hazardous chemicals and household paints can be taken to our Harefield Civic Amenity Site.

Knives

Dispose of knives safely to prevent injury to yourself, your household and those collecting and processing our borough's waste and recycling.

Please recycle knives at one of our waste and recycling centres, by placing them into one of the metal recycling containers on site:

If you are unable to get to one of our sites, please wrap knives securely (using material such as bubble wrap, old cloth, or a cardboard box - anything that protects the sharp edge) and place it in with your general household rubbish. Put a label (clearly visable) on the rubbish bag to indicate that there are sharp items in the bag, so that our waste team collects your rubbish with caution.
