Hazardous waste

Waste is generally considered hazardous if it (or the material or substances it contains) is harmful to humans or the environment. Examples include asbestos, solvents, pesticides, inedible oils and chemicals such as brake fluid or print toner.

Please note: Hazardous chemicals and household paints can be taken to our Harefield Civic Amenity Site.

Knives

Dispose of knives safely to prevent injury to yourself, your household and those collecting and processing our borough's waste and recycling.

Ways to safely dispose of unwanted knives

  1. Wrap the knife securely (using material such as bubble wrap, old cloth, or a cardboard box - anything that protects the sharp edge) and place it in with your general household rubbish.

If in doubt, put a label on the rubbish bag to indicate that there are sharp items in the bag, so that our waste team collects with caution.
  2. Dispose of the knife in one of our sealed 'bin a knife' steel containers in Hillingdon.
