Coffee pod recycling As part of Podback - a nationwide pod recycling service - residents can now drop off plastic and aluminium coffee pods at Harefield Civic Amenity Site for recycling. Please note: No bag required; simply tip your pods loose into the designated containers.
Opening hours and busy times
This site is open Monday to Sunday, 8am to 4pm.
Last entry for residents is 3.45pm.
The weighbridge closes at 3.45pm each day. If you are paying to dispose of your waste, please ensure you arrive at the site at least 10 minutes before the weighbridge closes, ie before 3.35pm.
During our busiest times, queues at this site can average around an hour and half. Residents are advised to avoid lunch time periods (between 11am and midday) and the last half hour.
Residents wishing to visit the site in a van will need 2 forms of ID (a photo ID and a household bill dated within the last 3 months). If you don't have a driver's licence, you will need a passport and 2 forms of address. Any van that arrives at the site without the correct ID or with ID in another person's name may be refused entry.
Residents visiting the site in a van are restricted to a maximum of 12 visits per year (January to December).
All vehicles will only have access to the site via Harvil Road to assist with traffic congestion.
Please do not turn right into New Years Green Lane from Harvil Road. Instead, join the back of the queue coming down from Harefield.
Cost of using the site
Hillingdon residents with their HillingdonFirst card or driving licence and a household bill can use this site for free. As vehicles queue to use the site, members of our staff will check for proof of address.
Non Hillingdon residents visiting in a car can use the site at a charge of £11 per visit. Please use the van/trade entrance and approach the weighbridge office.
For non Hillingdon residents visiting in a van, full trade prices will be applied.
Please note: Certain DIY items carry a charge when brought to the site in large quantities. Please check our DIY and building waste page for full details.
Using the site safely
Everyone using this site must follow our site safely rules at all times.
Failure to comply with these rules may result in being refused entry or directed to leave the site immediately.
Please ensure any food appliances are emptied of all food, which has the potential to cause odour emissions and attract pests/vermin. Any units received that contain food or contamination may be rejected and returned to the origin site.
To reduce paint spillages on site, please harden any paint that you want to dispose of. You can do this by adding a paint hardener, sawdust sand or soil to the tin. Leave the lid off until the paint becomes solid and dry, before bringing it to Harefield Civic Amenity Site.
Gas cylinders
We do not accept gas cylinders at this site. This includes fire extinguishers, beer barrels and oxygen tanks.
If gas canisters are thrown into the general rubbish, there is a high risk of causing a fire.
Calor gas cylinders can be taken back to a Calor gas supplier; some petrol stations may also accept them. For other gas canisters, we advise residents to contact Grundons.
We do accept the helium canisters, but these must be handed to a member of staff.
Reuse centre on site
Donate unwanted items or pick up a bargain at our reuse centre - located to your right after you drive through the barriers of Harefield Civic Amenity Site.
Browse a selection of quality, affordable household items to take home. While there are no prices on individual items, we encourage people to make a donation each time they take an item away. All proceeds will go to the Mayor's chosen charities.
You can also bring good quality household items, such as tables, chairs, storage boxes, toys and cabinets, to be upcycled or reused. The reuse centre cannot accept any textiles or electrical items, such as TVs or hair dryers, as we cannot test whether they work or are safe, but these can recycling through our textile collection service.
