Rubbish collections

We collect general rubbish every week from more than 100,000 households in the borough.

Instead of throwing away unwanted items that still have life in them, why not donate them to a charity, such as Trinity, or sell/giveaway unwanted items through FreegleFreecycleLoveJunk marketplace or social media sites.

Clinical waste collection

We make regular and one-off free collections of clinical waste for households in Hillingdon. Please note: This service is not available to businesses and schools.

Bag collection

Residents who need to dispose of items such as stoma bags, colostomy bags, bandages and dressings can use our bag collection service.

This collection is made every Wednesday and bags should be left on your doorstep the night before or by 6am on the day of collection. Our team will leave new bags for you when they collect your disposed bags.

Christmas and new year collections

Due to Christmas Day and New Year's Day falling on a Wednesday this year, bag collections will be made on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 24 December (instead of Wednesday 25 December)
  • Tuesday 31 December (instead of Wednesday 1 January)

Sharps box collection

Residents who need to dispose of needles, syringes, lancets (used with finger pricking devices) or clippers can use our sharps box collection.

Sharps box collections are usually made on the first Thursday and Friday of every month.

Sharps box collections for December are now full.
Next collection dates are Thursday 2 and Friday 3 January 2025.

Boxes should be left on your doorstep the night before or by 6am on the day of collection.

If you live in a flat, which has a 'trade' button that our team can use to gain entry, then the box can be left outside your front door. Alternatively, leave the box in a communal bin area that our team can access. When you request a collection, please add a note (providing any access codes, if needed) when asked 'Are there any further details you want to provide us with?'

To obtain sharps boxes, visit your GP or local pharmacist.

Missed sharp box collection

If your rubbish hasn't been collected on your advised collection day and you have followed instructions for collection, please let us know.

Please wait until after 4pm on the Friday to raise a missed sharp box collection, as our crews are out collecting until this time.
