Rubbish collections

We collect general rubbish every week from more than 100,000 households in the borough.

In this section:

Household rubbish

If you or your household is self isolating, please put your waste in a black bag, tie it, place into another black bag and tie it again. Be careful not to contaminate your recycling with any general rubbish. Keep all rubbish bags aside for at least 72 hours before putting out on your normal collection day, ensuring they are kept separate from your recycling and out of reach of children and pets.

Please ensure you dispose of any used PPE (gloves and face masks) in with your general household rubbish (not in your recycling bags, as these items cannot be recycled).

Instructions for collection

  • General rubbish bag
Carefully wrap (and label if appropriate) any broken glass or other items that could cause injury.
  • Keep all of your waste bags within your property boundary until your collection day.
  • On your collection day, leave your tied black bag on the end of your property boundary before 6am.
  • If you do not have a front garden, leave the tied black bag on the pavement the night before collection day (no earlier than 5.30pm).
  • To avoid household rubbish bags being split open by foxes, birds and other animals, we strongly recommend the use of regular domestic dustbins (not wheeled bins) to safely contain your rubbish before collection day.
