Hayes fire: What we're doing to help

Friday 21 March 2025: Hillingdon Council is working closely with partners to respond to a significant fire that started last night (Thursday 20 March) at an electrical substation in Nestles Avenue, Hayes.

Council
The fire is now under control, but due to a significant amount of smoke, a 200-metre cordon has been established, and around 150 people were evacuated. Please avoid the area wherever possible. Due to the significant amount of smoke, the London Fire Brigade is strongly advising local residents to keep their windows and doors closed.

Most evacuees have dispersed and have made arrangements themselves, and the council is assisting 12 people with hotel accommodation until it is safe to return to their homes.

Welfare checks are taking place for residents in the affected area with care needs.

Refuse and recycling collections in the area today (Friday 21 March) will be impacted.

Properties outside of the exclusion zone, and accessible with the permission of the emergency services, will have their bins collected as normal.

Botwell Green Library is open for any affected residents to seek support, access hot drinks and use facilities, including computers and to charge mobile devices.

Our collection teams plan to visit any missed streets tomorrow (Saturday 22 March) providing the area is accessible, and the service has permission to do so by the emergency services.

Nestles Avenue Early Years Centre, Pinkwell Children's Centre, Pinkwell Primary School, Dr Triplett's C of E Primary School, and The Global Academy are all closed.

Botwell House Catholic Primary School was closed but will reopen this afternoon.

Bus routes in the area are affected with diversions and cancellations in place. The Piccadilly Line is running as normal but not stopping at Terminal 4. The Elizabeth Line is not running between Hayes and Harlington and Heathrow. The Heathrow Express service is suspended.

The M4 is closed between junction three and four and the Terminal Four spur roads are also closed.

Heathrow Airport remains closed.
