Social housing allocation policy consultation

Local authorities with housing responsibilities are required to have a policy that identifies priorities for social housing allocations. This includes council-owned and housing-association-owned properties to ensure the best use of social rented homes.

We are consulting on proposed changes to our social housing allocation policy.

The Draft social housing allocation policy (PDF) [579KB] sets out our council's aims to address the growing demand for housing support, by providing a clearer framework for prioritising applications.

The changes will bring greater transparency and clarity to households who are a priority for re-housing, including:

  • continued priority for residents with 10 or more years' continuous residency
  • to extend options to a wider range of households to relieve overcrowding
  •  ensuring the most vulnerable groups are supported by the policy, for rehousing.
