Business rates review

Information on the councils duty to carry out business rate reviews.

How are business rates reviewed?

Hillingdon Council has a duty to maintain accurate records to ensure business rates are being correctly assessed. All properties that fall within the Local Government qualifying criteria are required to be assessed.  In order for us to meet this duty, two companies, Capacitygrid and Analyse Local have been appointed to perform reviews working in conjunction with the council's inspectors.

How will reviews take place?

An inspector acting on behalf of the council will visit the business and show an inspection authoritisation letter with a photo identification card.  It is important to note that Capactiygird and Analyse Local's contact details will be clearly identified as part of the inspection letter. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete the review.

Should my business be reviewed?

While the review process is a fairly painless process, it is important to note that the majority of businesses will not be subject to review. If you are unsure about why your business properties are subject to rates you can find out more at our business rates section.
