Nativity crib by a prisoner of war

Just after the war, German Prisoners of War were building Judge Heath Lane.

Margaret Builth (aged 7) and her sister Pauline (aged 5) would walk past the prisoner camp to get to Dr Tripletts School from their home in Ash Grove.

'One of the prisoners said he had 2 daughters the same age - he said he was really missing them. He used to make us wooden toys and at Christmas he made this Nativity scene out of odd bits he found on site'.

The crib was used by Margaret and her family for many years until she gave it to the museum.
