Join the Great British September Clean in Hillingdon

Wednesday 9 September: Hillingdon Council is inviting residents to take part in litter pick events at local parks and green spaces, as part of the nationwide Great British September Clean.

Great British September CleanKeep Britain Tidy's campaign runs from 12 to 26 September, and the council is supporting it by hosting three socially-distanced events at Hillingdon's award-winning local parks and green spaces.

The litter pick events will take place at Pinn Meadows, Ruislip on Saturday 12 September, 10.30am to 1pm; Hillingdon House Farm, Uxbridge on Wednesday 16 September, 10.30am to 1pm; and Cranford Country Park, Hayes on Saturday 26 September, 10am to 1pm. Places are limited and will need to be booked online prior to the event.

In light of the latest government advice on gatherings relating to the ongoing pandemic - if you are taking part on or after Monday 14 September, you must do so in groups of up to no more than 6 people.

Residents, schools, community groups and businesses can also make a pledge to do something to help the environment, such as promising to recycle more, reducing energy consumption, introducing reusable products, or travelling in a more environmentally friendly way.

Cllr Philip Corthorne, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Housing and Environment, said: "Hillingdon is one of London's greenest boroughs and the council will continue to protect its award-winning parks and open spaces, whilst looking for ways to be more sustainable and energy efficient.

"There are a multitude of things that residents can do to help the local environment, whether it's joining in with a community litter picking event or pledging to reduce your plastic use. However big or small, you can help make a difference in Hillingdon and protect the environment for generations to come."

Residents can make a pledge by visiting www.hillingdon.gov.uk/environment-pledge - which will show how many people are taking part in the campaign. Pledges can also be shared by mentioning @Hillingdon on Twitter and using the hashtag #environmentpledge
