Sergeant Ronald Henry Fokes
- He joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in 1937.
- Joined No. 92 Squadron in January 1940 and flew with them during the Battle of Britain.
- As well as flying in combat, he also worked as a flight instructor and test pilot for Hawker Typhoons.
- Fokes made 9 kills and 3 probables in the Battle of Britain.
- He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal in November 1940.
- Joined No. 53 Squadron in 1941, working in the Operational Training Unit at RAF Heston as an instructor.
- Married in March 1941 and moved to Collingwood Road, Hillingdon.
- He transferred to No. 154 Squadron in 1941 as Flight Commander.
- Joined No. 56 Squadron in March 1942, flying Hawker Typhoons.
- Transferred to No. 193 Squadron in 1943.
- Promoted to Squadron Leader of No. 257 Squadron in July 1943.
- Fokes was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in March 1944.
- His tour was due to end just before D-Day but he elected to stay on with his squadron (No. 257). He was shot down and killed over Caen, France before D-Day in 1944.
