Hillingdon's libraries host healthy heart activities
Tuesday 28 January: Hillingdon Council is running its annual Heart Month initiative once again this February.
A series of events will be held at libraries across the borough to support residents of all ages with their health and wellbeing.
The month launches on Saturday 1 February at Botwell Green Library, where residents can enjoy activities including a craft session, a heart-theme storytime and climbing with the Scouts.
Uxbridge Library will host its first speed reading event at on Saturday 1 February, between 12pm and 2pm, where residents can talk to a range of authors about their books and writing careers.
On Monday 3 February, Uxbridge Library will hold a Once Upon a Bump group which will give expectant and new parents the opportunity to meet, chat and socialise over a cup of tea between 2pm to 3pm.
There will also be a health fair on Friday 7 February at Uxbridge Library, where residents can receive health and wellbeing advice from local providers.
Libraries will be holding mindfulness sessions, including an introduction to Ayurvedic practices - a form of Indian alternative medicine - meditation classes and an aromatherapy taster session.
Family-oriented fun includes the chance to try out some giant board games, a Taekwondo taster session and racing on smoothie bikes - specially adapted bicycles that blend smoothies while the users pedal.
Other activities include health checks, feel-good film screenings, talks, coffee mornings and walks.
Cllr Jane Palmer, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Social Care, Health and Wellbeing said: "I am delighted that our libraries are once again promoting the benefits of heart health, raising awareness through a packed calendar of events.
"I hope residents will come along to one of our libraries to try something new, have fun and make the most of the advice and support available. It only takes small changes to your lifestyle to make a big difference to your health."
