What you can do for a safer Hillingdon

Information and advice on what you can do for a safer Hillingdon.

Secure your alleyway

The alley gating scheme assists local residents in securing their privately-owned alleyways against intrusion by others.

By installing lockable gates, the quality of life for residents and businesses can be dramatically improved. The gates can reduce the likelihood of burglars gaining access to the rear of properties, protect the alley from fly-tipping and other anti-social behaviour.

About our alley gating scheme

  • Applications can be made for alleyways that serve at least 6 households.
  • If successful, applicants can benefit from funding that contributes up to 90% of the cost of alley gates.
  • Once the gates are installed, future maintenance and ownership will be the responsibility of local residents.
  • If a spare key is required, we recommend speaking to your neighbours in the first instance.

Making an application

Before submitting an application, read our  Chrysalis alley gating pack (PDF) [475KB], which includes information on designing your scheme and application guidance.

For ideas on how to approach your neighbours about the scheme and to download letter templates, use our consulting with neighbours guide.
