New Uxbridge Library to open in Civic Centre next month
Tuesday 18 March 2025: Hillingdon Council's enhanced Uxbridge Library is just four weeks away from opening to residents in its new home at the Civic Centre, as the authority continues its drive to deliver value for money for residents by co-locating services.

The council made the decision last July to relocate the library to the Civic Centre. Since then, work has continued at pace on the 1930s Grade II listed building, with the new facility due to open its doors early next month ahead of an official opening on Thursday 24 April.
The new library will preserve many of the building's original Art Deco features, including a stunning parquet floor, wall décor, lighting and exposed 1930s steel support beams as part of an overall 'industrial' aesthetic.
As well as a dedicated children's section, there will be a study space, laptop bars, an exhibition space and learning centre.
Alongside the library, the Civic Centre site will also accommodate a brand new museum, local studies search room and archives service, which will open in the summer.
The Register Office, which currently occupies the site of the new museum, will relocate to larger premises within the same building.
To help facilitate the final stages of the move, the current building will be closed from Monday 31 March.
Ahead of the relocation, there will be some disruption to services at the High Street site in the week before it closes, however library users will still be able to access services at Hillingdon's 15 other libraries and the mobile library. The closest alternative libraries are Ickenham, Yiewsley and Oak Farm.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Community and Environment, said: "It's really exciting to see this new facility nearing completion and we can't wait for residents to come and see if for themselves.
"By bringing the library into the Civic Centre, alongside Uxbridge Family Hub and Learn Hillingdon adult education, we're not only enhancing it but delivering value for money by co-locating key services in one location."
