Council plans celebrations for Diamond Jubilee
Tuesday 18 March 2025: Hillingdon Council is inviting residents to join the celebrations as it marks the 60th anniversary of the borough's formation with a range of family-friendly events and activities.

The borough's Diamond Jubilee will be commemorated this year with a series of activities across its heritage sites and libraries, with the main event the Mayor's Picnic in the Park on Saturday 7 June at Cowley Recreation Ground.
The jubilee celebrations begin with a special service at St Margaret's Church in Uxbridge, on Sunday 6 April for dignitaries and invited guests.
A 'Reminiscence Roadshow' is visiting all libraries to record residents' memories of the borough as part of a future commemorative exhibition, and for children, STEM-themed Lego construction events will take place in libraries, where they can build things from the past and the future.
A pop-up exhibition highlighting the borough's history during the past 60 years will be on display at the newly-relocated Uxbridge Library in the Civic Centre before touring borough libraries. Among the events at our heritages sites is a special trail in Eastcote House Garden where visitors can hunt 60 treasures.
The council invested £1 million over the last financial year to upgrade and enhance five parks as part of the celebrations, with more set to receive upgrades during 2025/2026. And all community projects funded through the council's Chrysalis investment programme this year will receive a special commemorative jubilee plaque.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Community and Environment, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our brilliant borough, its history and its residents.
"We've organised a range of events to mark this milestone, looking back across previous decades and exploring the many ways in which our borough has changed over the years.
"We hope this celebration brings communities together to share memories, look to the future and champion the brilliant borough we all live in."
