Reviewing an unsuccessful application
If your application has been refused, don't worry—there are steps you can take to request a review or reapply. This page explains your options and how to move forward.
If Your Application is unsuccessful
Your local council will:
- write to you explaining the reasons for refusal
- provide details about the next steps in the process.
Refused applications
If you're refused a Blue Badge, the council will provide:
- a statement outlining the reasons for refusal
- an explanation of the review process.
Your Rights as an applicant
If your application is refused, you have the following rights:
- request a review of the decision
- appeal to the Local Government Ombudsman if the council has not followed due process correctly.
Reapplying After Refusal
An unsuccessful application does not stop you from applying again. You can reapply:
- After 6 months from your original refusal date, if your condition changes.
- You will need to provide new evidence to support your application.
How to Request a Review
If you do not agree with the decision and have further evidence to support your application, you can request a review.
Steps to Request a Review
- Review the decision letter - Carefully read the refusal letter sent by the council.
- Gather additional evidence - Provide new supporting documentation, such as: Medical reports, or letters from healthcare providers or other professionals detailing your mobility issues.
- Submit a request for review

- Each council has its own complaints process, which you can find on their website. [Add the link to complaints section]
- If you're still not satisfied, you can contact the Local Government Ombudsman for further assistance.
