New family-sized council homes completed in Harefield

Thursday 13 March 2025: Hillingdon Council is celebrating the completion of six new family-sized social homes on a former disused garage site in Harefield as part of its commitment to create more affordable properties for residents.

The brownfield site, accessible via Sullivan Crescent, was repurposed to meet housing needs in partnership with Bugler Developments.

The newly named Cornflower Close will provide large three and four-bedroom homes with gardens to help relocate council tenants whose familial circumstances have changed and require larger homes.

Each property is powered by state-of-the-art air source heat pumps, helping to keep household energy bills down and reducing the impact on the climate. They are also fitted with electric vehicle charging points and cycle storage units.

One of the properties is also fully wheelchair accessible and is fitted with a range of features, including a lift, bedroom to bathroom hoist, wet room and adapted kitchen to accommodate a household with complex needs.

Cllr Steve Tuckwell, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing and Growth, said: "This is another example of how we are transforming unused land, which is no longer fit for purpose, into high quality council homes for residents in need.

"We have a pipeline of housing developments under construction across the borough to help us create more much-needed affordable homes in safe and strong communities.

"Properties of this size are greatly sought after; these homes will be quickly allocated to priority residents who have been on the housing register for a long time. However, demand for homes in the borough remains very high and for many residents the best chance of finding a secure home is through the private rented sector."
