Eligibility confirmation and review for European Union Citizens

Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) are required to review all registered voters who are EU citizens, except for those from the Republic of Ireland, Malta or Cyprus.

Review process

The 2 groups of EU citizens will keep their rights:

Citizens of Denmark, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal and Spain will receive written confirmation stating that they remain eligible to be registered to vote.
Citizens of other EU countries, we will check past electoral records to confirm your UK residence before 31 December 2020. If this can't be confirmed, you will receive a letter or email asking for proof of your eligibility to stay registered under the new criteria.

Confirming eligibility

If you have received a letter telling you that you are still eligible to vote, you do not need to take any further action. You remain eligible and can vote in upcoming elections, excluding UK Parliamentary elections.

If you have received an email from electoralservices@hillingdon.gov.uk or a letter from us asking you to confirm your eligibility, please do so by either:

visiting to the GOV.UK website (details on how to log in will be included in the letter or email we have sent) or
completing the paper form and email it to electoralservices@hillingdon.gov.uk.

If you confirm you do not meet the eligibility criteria, or you do not provide the requested details, you will not be eligible to remain registered and we will send you a confirmation letter.

If you do not respond to the request for information about your eligibility, the ERO will determine that you are no longer eligible to vote, and we will send you a confirmation letter.

Please note:

Responding to our annual canvass of residents does not count as a response to this review process.
Emails from the ERO will only be sent from electoralservices@hillingdon.gov.uk. Please check the sender's email address before responding.
If you are eligible, you can  re-register to vote online.

Re-register to vote

New citizenship or change of nationality

If you have gained new citizenship or changed your nationality since you have last registered to vote, please let us know by email electoralservices@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Changes to your citizenship or nationality may affect your eligibility to vote in some elections and you might need to re-register to vote.
