Investing in the borough's school buildings
Friday 6 December, 2024: Hillingdon Council has invested more than £3 million to replace the roofs of five schools in the borough to improve insulation and prevent future water damage.
Cllr Jonathan Bianco, Hillingdon Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Property, and Cllr Susan O'Brien, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, were shown the new roofs on Wednesday 4 December and Thursday 5 December. They were joined by the headteachers, council officers, and representatives from contractors CWG Group.
The council's continued investment in its Schools Condition Building Programme means the replacement works could be undertaken before any potential impact on their daily operations and followed surveys of the buildings.
An additional benefit is better insulation of the buildings, which in turn will deliver energy savings and a reduction in the schools' carbon footprint.
Cllr Bianco said: "This important investment will futureproof these five schools, ensuring they continue to be welcoming places for learning.
"We want our children to achieve well in education, with opportunities for learning at all ages, and part of this means providing high quality buildings where they can reach their full potential.
"The refurbished roofs mean the schools are more energy efficient, supporting our ambition for a green and sustainable borough."
