Adult volunteering in our libraries

We have a wide range of exciting volunteering opportunities for adults in our libraries, where you can meet new people, learn new skills and make a difference in your community.

What you can expect  

You can volunteer with us as much or as little as you want - from running weekly sessions, to helping at occasional author events, or supporting new computer users with digital skills - it is up to you. 

Roles provide a great opportunity to gain experience of working in a library, teamwork and engaging with members of the public.

We will be flexible and supportive, and staff will always be on hand to help when you are volunteering in our libraries and event spaces. You will receive any training that is necessary.

After an agreed period, the library service will provide the volunteer with a reference. 

Who can apply?

We are looking for individuals who are aged 18+, enthusiastic and passionate about their local library.

We need volunteers who:

  • are able to relate well to others - this includes individuals of all ages
  • have a passion for developing activities and hosting events within communities
  • have good communication and organisational skills and be able to engage with a range of diverse individuals
  • are responsible, confident, dependable and enthusiastic
  • are happy to lend a hand to most things. 

Please note: You must live, study or work in the borough of Hillingdon to be qualify for a volunteering placement.

Event support volunteers

This is a supporting role, providing additional help to library staff run events for adults at prearranged times.

We have both daytime and evening opportunities.
