Who should I contact for immediate assistance after a flood?

We can offer flood-related assistance in several ways:

What should I do if my home is flooded?

Ensure your safety first and only enter your property once the flood water has subsided. Avoid contact with floodwater, turn off gas and electricity, and evacuate if necessary.

Contact emergency services if needed.

What health risks are associated with floodwater?

Floodwater can contain harmful contaminants. Avoid direct contact and ensure water is safe for drinking.

Contact Thames Water on 0800 3169800 for ongoing sewer flooding or blockages.

What should I do if I have a power failure?

Contact your utilities service provider. You can call 105 a free service that will connect you with your local electricity operator. You can visit your local library for access to a computer if required.

How should I clean my home after a flood?

Use protective clothing, clean with hot water and detergent, and disinfect surfaces.

Be cautious with electrical appliances and have them checked by professionals.

How do I dry out my home?

Use central heating, dehumidifiers, and ensure good ventilation. Avoid using petrol or diesel generators indoors due to carbon monoxide risks.

What should I do with items damaged by floodwater?

Clean and disinfect hard surfaces. Discard items that can not be properly cleaned.

For furniture and carpets damaged due to the flooding contact our bulky waste collection team by email streetsupervisor@hillingdon.gov.uk.

I privately rent my home, what assistance can I get?

Tell your landlord as soon as possible if your rented home has flooded.

How do I make an insurance claim after a flood?

Contact your insurance company as soon as possible.

If damage has occurred, call your insurance company (if you own your property), or your landlord (if you rent your property) to inform them of the situation and follow their advice on what to do next.

Make sure you take photographs of any damaged items prior to disposal.
