Hillingdon Council tops charts for best parks again
Tuesday 16 July, 2024: For the twelfth year in a row, Hillingdon Council has secured the top spot for the number of Green Flag spaces maintained by a UK authority.
The awards scheme, run nationally and internationally, is organised by Keep Britain Tidy and allocates the prestigious awards only to those parks with the highest standards for facilities, cleanliness and environmental friendliness, as well as being welcoming and community-orientated.
Last year, the council announced a £1 million investment programme to enhance the borough's parks and green spaces to mark the borough's diamond jubilee next year.
Works have recently completed to renovate the bandstand in Barra Hall Park, Hayes as part of the Parks Enhancement Programme with works to improve landscaping, seats, paths and signage coming soon to Bessingby Park in Ruislip Manor and more improvements at other locations yet to be confirmed.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, said: "This is fantastic news for residents who continue to see investment, maintenance and improvements to the green spaces which make our borough so pleasant.
"We're committed to creating a green future for residents and nature and this is reflected in the continued prioritisation of our parks as key assets for all.
"The Green Flag Awards show these parks meet the highest international standards so we don't take for granted having achieved the top spot nationally for 12 years in a row."
The annual Green Flag Award scheme, judged by a group of environmental charities including Keep Britain Tidy, recognises accessible green spaces and is the national standard for public parks.
The council has retained its current Green Flag total for the past three years in a row.
